Golden Love in Modern Years

I know the little soul when the sky
goes out
begging. You are after me.
I'm going
to stay all in, baby. Get
lost in things. There's my shadow.
I catch it for warmth when the
newspaper hits the door. I
run but
things won’t chase
the way I want.
I don't
believe it’s all really up to me
today. A
change and I wish the days
were getting longer, wish
I was getting
smarter
standing in your wind. But
doing it all,
my heart’s never as young.
Don't break the
wave waiting for my
sweet
goodbye. Don't cry like a fool.
This is “so long”,
but I’ll see you in
twenty, still t
rying to care. There's
no one
coming to get a dream signed
on the
back of a life. It belongs to the
power.
Once you charmed my baby
all the way down.
I'm back lying on
the
driveway, going to wait for it to
rain. I could never
be falling in puddles.
Walk
some of the time beside a gold
mine and see me
in years, stomping
these
leaves into the ground and touching
you
by the thousands. Stuck with time,
it terrifies me to
act fine, makes me a
baby, this lost walk with tall trees.
Take
me back to the party. Looks were
never
put to rest in my time. I can’t trust
in God.
Never know where I’ll end up.
For
you, man, that's all luck and confessions.
In walked
religion, strings I don't believe
in
pulling. Once the doors are opening
with love, don't let me be pleading to
hear you say life's not
done. Taking me
nowhere, the boy got
it right, and it's
not really
love unless you worked the
night they said you were dying.

I worked some lyrics together for this homage. I do hope you enjoy it.
