Insignia
burned into
Neurons, eyes closed
It’s still
There, but it’s not still.
It is
Always moving,
Thrusting against your brain, waving
In the wind, weighing
On your
Neck.
Repeat
the passage. Lips wrapping
Over air, forming the vowels,
Taking the vow. What more effort does
Allegiance take? So simple, a
Toddler can learn to
Initiate conflict
Over ridicule of his
Nation.
Exhale
hate with intention.
Meditate on the sensation.
Answer the fucking question.
Needle the skin you grew yourself in and
Cast it off
Inch by inch, one broken
Pledge
At a
Time, until
It becomes clear that you must
Own how you show love to your
Neighbor.
Rinse,
repeat. An
Everyday process. It’s not just a
Vote,
Or a Facebook post. You have to
Live the
Ultimatum.
There will be no
Idle hearts
On the right side of our
Nation’s history.
