My son asked me if the Caldecott medal on one of his books meant it was one of the best books ever. I told him it did. Then he pulled out one of his favorite books and asked if it wasn't one of the best books ever because it didn't have a medal.
I told him that lots of great books don't get medals and all that matters is if he likes it.
I'd hate to raise a reader who relies on a sticker to tell him what's good.
